IIT Kharagpur Foundation (IITKGPF) of USA Award Program for International Internships

Under this Program, IITKGPF supports meritorious students across Bachelors and Masters levels and Departments/Schools/ Centers each year for availing high quality international research and professional internships.

Awardees are selected based on:

  • The quality of the host institution/company
  • The quality of the proposed research
  • Academic standing of the applicant

The value of the award ranges between USD 3000-5000 and is administered directly by IITKGPF. The awardee will be responsible for arranging additional source of funding support as required.

In addition to the above points the final approval is contingent upon:

  • Completion of internship and return to Institute before the start of the Autumn Semester.
  • Approvals from their Faculty advisor as well as HoD to undertake the internship for their originally planned duration, while in full knowledge of the start date of the Autumn semester.
  • Submission of the approval has to the Office of International Relations (OIR).

Application Process:

  1. Wait for the call for applications
  2. Login to International Relations Cell, Foreign Training Portal (FTP).
  3. Provide the following information in the provided form:
    • Name
    • Email id
    • CGPA
    • Whether internship is ‘optional’ or ‘mandatory’
    • Year of Study at IITKGP
    • Financial Assistance
    • Name of Host Institute and Dept.
    • Details of the financial support received from the host university
    • Funding Proof
    • Award amount requested from GKF
    • Duration of visit to host university
    • A brief SoP

Decisions are made on the following principles:

  • Mandatory internships are given priority over optional internships.
  • The students were ranked for non-mandatory internship program according to CGPA.
  • 3rd Year Students were given priority over 2nd Year Students in non-mandatory category.
  • Start and end dates of the internship must be within the time duration approved by the Institute’s norms and policies.
  • All applications must be endorsed by the faculty mentor and HoD
  • The NoC application form for international internships must be duly filled up and endorsed by competent authority.

All provisionally approved candidates are:

  • To return on campus before the start of the Autumn Semester.
  • Negotiate the dates of commencement and return with the Host Institute and submit the revised offer letter to Office of International Relations (OIR).
  • In case the dates cannot be negotiated, they have to take approvals from their Faculty advisor as well as HoD to undertake the internship for their originally planned duration, while in full knowledge of the start date of the Autumn semester. The approval has to be submitted to the OIR.
  • The final approval is contingent upon the above.

Call for applications along with application guidelines are released around March-April every year.
