Undergraduate Program
- In order to get admission to B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology), 5 year Dual Degree/Integrated MS programme, the student must appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) conducted by the Joint Admission Board (JAB).
- Candidates who are NOT citizens of India (by birth or naturalized) (but not OCI/PIO candidates) shall be considered as FOREIGN NATIONALS.
- As per the decision dated February 03, 2023 passed by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India in Writ Petition (Civil) 891 / 2021, the OCI/PIO candidates shall be considered as Indian nationals.
- The foreign national candidates, at the time of registering for JEE (Advanced) 2023 are NOT required to write JEE (Main) 2023 and may register for JEE (Advanced) 2023 directly.
- OCI/PIO candidates who have studied or are studying in India/abroad at 10+2 level or equivalent at the time of registering for JEE (Advanced) 2023 are NOT required to write JEE (Main) 2023 and may register for JEE (Advanced) 2023 directly.

Masters Program
IIT Kharagpur welcomes foreign students to apply for its M.Tech/Masters programs. We invite applications for admission to the Masters/M.Tech Programme of the Institute in almost all disciplines of Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture & Regional Planning, Humanities & Social Sciences, Rural Development, Law, Management and Medicine.
Steps to apply for a M.Tech/Masters program
- Register through the application portal

- Make payment of the application fee* for INR 500 through the payment link.
*Please note: The application fee is "Waived for students" who have applied through ICCR / EDCIL-SII PROGRAM/ASEAN- DIA program to IITKgp. However, to get this waiver the concerned student must ensure to mention their respective ICCR/ASEAN-DIA/SII Application number as a reference in the space provided inside the form without fail.
Eligibility criteria
- The foreign students should have excellent schooling and undergraduate academic records.
- Shortlisted students are asked to appear for a video interview.
- A valid GATE score may substitute for the video interview for admission into MTech programs. Likewise, a valid JAM score may substitute for the video interview for 2-yr M.Sc. admission.

- Admission criteria will be solely academic in nature. Fees to be paid, ability to pay, and eligibility for scholarship (s) will not be considered part of admission criteria.

- Its own eligibility criteria/cut-off in matters of past academic record and qualification
- Its own admission test which may be a sufficiently long interview administered in video conferencing mode
- The Interview will test for both technical and English skills
- TOEFL/GRE/ similar test scores to be made optional
- Two letters of reference from professional contacts regardless of time elapsed after last degree.
- Admission process will be compliant with GoI’s rules regarding applicant’s country of citizenship and current immigration status in India, if any.
- Initial screening will made to determine if applicant belongs to a “special permission” country. If so, necessary permission from GoI to be sought before the application can be processed further. For applications not belonging to a “special permission” country, the application process will be initiated.
- If applicant is found academically suitable for admission to PhD Program and accepts the provisional offer, due permission to issue visa letter from GoI to be sought.
- If above permission is obtained, visa letters to be issued as per rules.

Joint Doctoral Program
IIT KGP offers Joint Doctoral Programs (JDP) with its partner institutions. JDP provides students with an exclusive opportunity to live and study in both countries during their candidature and earn their doctoral degree jointy awarded by the partner institutes. The thesis is evaluated by each Institute according to its own rules and the joint nature of the work is acknowledged in the degree certificate(s).

Non-Degree Programs
Foreign students of recognized Institute/University interested in carrying out Course work / Research not leading to a degree may visit IITKGP for a short period of not exceeding two consecutive semesters with the intervening summer/winter term. The potential students can be accepted as visiting students under the MoU or otherwise. The research scholars visiting IITKGP for thesis/ project work/research work should contact the professors in advance to take their approval for guidance before applying. Foreign students visiting under any governing MoU will be given admission based on the terms and conditions under the MoU as agreed between IITKGP and the Country/ University/Institution concerned.

ELIGIBILITY
Minimum Qualification:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture from a recognized Institute or University for a minimum of four years duration with at least 60% marks or a CGPA 6.5 (in 10 point scale) or equivalent.
MSc. Degree in appropriate Sciences or a relevant discipline from a recognized Institute or University for a minimum 3 + 2 years duration with at least 60% marks or a CGPA 6.5 (in 10 point scale) in Science subjects or 55% marks or CGPA 6.0 (in the 10 point scale) in the case of Humanities/Social Science subjects.
Working Experience:
Candidates having a Master Degree in the relevant field should have a minimum of 5 years of working experience and person without a master degree in the relevant field should have a minimum of 10 years of work experience as per the nature of experience given below:
Nature of Experience: His/Her Working experience should be directly from the field at the level of execution or supervision or in the relevant field (Monitoring, Evaluation or Policy Planning) in the Ministry in the areas of specialization or in academic and research institute.
Type of Organization: Agriculture or allied Departments of the Government or Inter0-Governmental Organization or Academic and Research Organization.
Normally the maximum age of candidate shall be below 35 years on 1st January of the year in which the admission is applied for. However, the age limit can be relaxed to 45 years for candidates who have extensive experience in the field.
Please note:
Foreign nationals with an eligible degree from Indian Universities will be treated on par with Indian nationals for admission. Foreign nationals with foreign degrees must meet the minimum educational requirements equivalent to an Indian Master's degree in the relevant disciplines. Foreign students are expected to have a working knowledge of English.
If the medium of instruction for their qualifying degree was not English, applicants must produce proof of proficiency in English - IELTS with a minimum score of 6.5 (overall) or a TOEFL score of 80 (overall). Test results should be dated no earlier than 15 September 2019. Foreign nationals can only register as full-time scholars.
All the applicants should have a good academic record.
The Selection Committees may set higher evaluation criteria than the minimum eligibility criteria listed. The selection, admission, and award of the MS degree shall be governed by the ordinances of the senate of IITKGP.
