Anvee Naik | Mathematics

UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN, USA

Research Area: Computer Vision in Robotics

Duration: 2 Months

From where you did Foreign Training?
Ans: UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN.

How was your experience?
Ans: It was a quite good experience. I was working in robotics lab there so I was able to learn more.

Do you think foreign training is important?
Ans: People are confused about should I go to higher studies or not. It gives you a good perspective about that. It is a good learning experience because its a completely different research facility than what we have in KGP.

How did you apply for FT?
Ans: I mailed the professor and he replied to me. After that, we had a skype interview and then I got selected. We have to mail a lot of professors, then we get a 1-2 response in 90-100 mail. It is tough to get a FT. It is quite competitive.

How did you manage your finance?
Ans: I didn’t get any scholarship. I have applied for DAAD, but I didn’t get it. My professor has provided me with the fund.

Do you think there is any role of CG for getting FT? If yes, How it affects?
Ans: If you are applying through the program then there is, but if you are directly emailing the professor then it totally depends upon them.

What were some things that impressed you there and you think needs to be implemented here at KGP as well?
Ans: education system is very different. A student has a lot of freedom .in what courses they choose, what the research they can do. A lot of students stay back and research there in the college itself. Professors are very involved in the project. Freedom in education is much more than what we have. After every few years, they redesign to a more efficient course structure.

What would you suggest to fellow KGPians?
Ans: If you really want to get FT, then definitely try for it. Everybody can have it, It's just that you need to work smartly. Professors only see your work and your inclination towards the field, and anyone can have it, just be patient. If you are interested in research or unsure about it, you can try doing a research internship the next summer. Don’t be disheartened if you don’t get a FT, its nothing too special, and you aren’t missing out on anything.
