Welcome to IIT Kharagpur!
Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur also known as IITKGP in short welcomes you on your new journey to study, explore and learn as much as your heart wants and is prepared! Foreign students of recognized Institute/University interested in carrying out Course work / Research not leading to a degree may visit IITKGP for a short period of not exceeding two consecutive semesters with the intervening summer/winter term. The potential students can be accepted as visiting students under the MoU or otherwise. The research scholars visiting IITKGP for thesis/ project work/research work should contact the professors in advance to take their approval for guidance before applying. Foreign students visiting under any governing MoU will be given admission based on the terms and conditions under the MoU as agreed between IITKGP and the Country/ University/Institution concerned.

The application portal is in the Beta Stage, and in case you are unable to apply through the portal, please fill up this application form and send it with all attachments to ir-office@adm.iitkgp.ac.in.
Tuition fees and other expenditures during your visit:
Tuition and other fees are determined based on Institute's prevailing policy and other governing MoUs (if any).
Registration of the Inbound Foreign Students:
As per Bureau of Immigration (BoI) of
Government of India:
“All foreigners (including foreigners of Indian
origin) visiting India on long term (more than 180 days) Student Visa,
Medical Visa, Research Visa and Employment Visa are required to get
themselves registered with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer
(FRRO)/ Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) concerned having
jurisdiction over the place where the foreigner intends to stay, within
14 days of arrival.”

The foreign student should report to the Office of the International Relations (OIR) located at the main building (ground floor) right opposite to the entrance of the Central Library preferably on the first day of their arrival. The OIR will be assisting the student to complete their registration process and also will be assisting with the future course of actions. They may contact the IR executives in case of any clarification or doubts.
