CALL FOR PROPOSALS

Funded internships for international students

As part of our effort to attract the best international talents to our campus, we are pleased to announce that several funded opportunities are available for hosting foreign interns at IIT Kharagpur campus from top international institutions starting the summer of 2019. The visits can last anywhere between two months in the summer to a full year. Some of these opportunities are reciprocal in nature, others are one-way into our campus. Funding will be provided by various external agencies as well as the Institute including the SGRIP administerd by OIR. We invite a one page proposal from you with the following details. These proposals will be posted on our Foreign Training Portal for the international candidates to choose from. The funded internships will be awarded on a competitive basis. The one page proposal should include:

  1. Title
  2. Name and Dept/School/Centre of supervisor(s) and link to the research profile of the supervisor(s) and/or research group(s)
  3. Brief abstract (100 words).
  4. Expected academic benefits to the intern(s).
  5. Number of positions.
  6. Required academic background and skills for the applicant (including specialization/major etc. and UG/PG level etc.)
  7. Expected duration (e.g., 2 months or 1 semester or 1 year) and blackout dates if any
  8. Additional funding availability, if any

University of Delaware Summer Scholar Exchange

This undergraduate student exchange involves a 10-week research experience in Civil and Environmental Engineering under the mentorship of a faculty member.

The anticipated timeframes are::

  • May 1 – July 10: IIT Kharagpur students at UD
  • June 1 – August 10: UD students at IIT Kharagpur.

For UD students visiting IIT Kharagpur, IITKGP will provide housing, meals, and free airport pickup and drop off. For IIT Kharagpur students visiting UD: UD Civil and Environmental Engineering will provide $4,500 for 10 weeks in 2020.

University of Auckland: Jointly guided funded student projects

IIT Kharagpur and the University of Auckland, NZ, are keen to build up a strategic long-term academic collaboration through funded joint supervision of students. We are also working toward a fully funded joint doctoral program slated to start in 2020.

The 3rd year UG student will be jointly guided by the IITKGP and UoA faculty team not only during the summer, but throughout the fourth year (as part of BTP or other project work).This joint guidance will help build up long term collaboration between the two faculty members. The year-long research collaboration may culminate in joint guidance of a student to be enrolled in IITKGP-UoA joint PhD degree program.

UK-India Education and Research Initiative

UKIERI has announced a funding call for mobility of UK students to spend some short-term time in Indian higher-education institutions. Interested Faculty members of IITKGP areinvited to put together a joint application with UK Universities. This would provide support for UK Undergraduate students to engage in a short term study and research activity atIIT KGP, working/studying in a chosen theme that can be mutually developed.

If you would like to host UK students, please contact your collaborators from eligible UK universities and submit your proposal.

Texas A&M University (TAMU)

The student exchange program between IIT Kharagpur and Texas A&M University, USA (TAMU) promotes 2-way mobility of students from IITKGP and TAMU to the other institution for short term research stays. Thanks to active support of our Distinguished Alumnus Dr. Asoke Dey Sarkar, the 2020 edition of the program will support the mobility of 4 students each way. The program provides funding for covering the local hospitality of the students during their stay (at IITKGP or TAMU) including accommodation, food and airport transfers.

Faculty members of IITKGP are strongly encouraged to float projects and host the students of TAMU for summer of 2020.

WIN-MITACS Program

A unique program with the University of Waterloo, Canada, the WIN-MITACS program supports 2-way mobility of students from IITKGP and UW through a unique funding program from Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology (WIN) and MITACS. As part of this scheme, WIN-MITACS supports the internship of students from both institutions for 3-4 months with a consolidated grant of CAD 6000/- per student. Up to 10 incoming students and 5 outgoing students can be supported every year under this scheme.

Project proposals are invited from IITKGP faculty members to host the UW students for the Jan-Apr 2020 term.

DUO-India Fellowship Programme

DUO-India Fellowship Programme is established in 2019 with the aim of promoting exchange of people between India and European countries on a balanced and permanent basis. For this program, only such institutes which are part of the Joint Research Projects under Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC) are eligible to participate.

DUO-India aims to fund every year, 50 professor-pairs for exchanges for one month, starting from 2020 onwards aiming to provide mobility between Indian and European institutes. In this respect, DUO-India requires that a PAIR (two persons) of professors to be exchanged, and they should be from any of the collaborating institutes (both Indian and European) under SPARC projects.
